Linear Tape-Open (LTO) is excellent for long-term data archival and storage. A new 2.5 TB LTO drive combines Thunderbolt and USB 3.0.
If you're an IT manager or responsible for backing up data for long-term archival, you may be interested in a new LTO drive from mLogic called the mTape Connect.
Priced at $4,499, the mTape Connect is squarely aimed at the enterprise market, specifically for long-term data archival. A properly-maintained LTO archive should survive for 15-30 years depending on usage and environmental factors.
The mTape Connect is the latest LTO-6 tape drive from capable of archiving up to 2.5 terabytes of data. It supports Linear Tape File System (LTFS). With an included utility, you can mount mTape cartridges on the desktop, format them, and eject them. The device works with third-party software available for Mac and Windows.
The mTape Connect is equipped with two Thunderbolt connectors so you can daisy-chain it to other Thunderbolt peripherals. There's also a USB 3.0 port.
The mTape Connect goes on sale in June.
