This is a totally different version to the Photoshop Express app which is already available. The new Photoshop app was given a short demo, which showed off the use of layers and a few other new features

There was no mention of when this app will be released or if it will be iPad only (or iPad 2 only due to the power needed to run it) but we will keep you in the loop as soon as we hear. If you want to catch a short video of the app in action, head over to Photography Bay.

Google Image Search now lets you filter vector-only results

google
Google Image Search just got a bit fancier: You can now filter search results to only include SVG files.

SVG files, which stand for Scalable Vector Graphics, are files you can easily edit and change without loss of definition. If you've been following our Corel tutorials, they might have given you some ideas about the power of vector graphics.

Being able to use Google to find such files gives designers a great head-start: Need to use a cat in your artwork? Just find a vector one which looks about right, and modify it for your needs! Anything can be edited - the cat's pose, its proportion, colors, etc.

Searching for these files is very simple: Just tack filetype:svg on to the end of your search, like cat filetype:svg, or go to the sidebar and click Images > SVG files.

Being able to find SVGs so easily also poses a bit of a copyright issue however. Anyone posting SVG files publicly should certainly put in a bit more of an effort to make their terms of use very clear, and anyone using them should heed those terms. Play nice folks!

Will iPad 3 Arrive In 2011

It’s incredible how fast new technology becomes outdated and obsolete these days. The iPad 2 hasn’t even gone on sale yet and there’s already rumors about iPad 3 making it’s debut sometime during the fall, around September to be exact. There’s no confirmation on whether or not these rumors are true. However, Apple must be [...]

Windows Home Server 2011 released to manufacturers

Windows Home Server 2011 released to manufacturers
windows home server 2011 whs
Just a little under two months after its release candidate went live, Windows Home Server (WHS) 2011 has been finalized and released into the wild. The new version of Microsoft's slick, do-it-all server OS is a big step forward from its predecessor.

Built on the Windows Server 2008 R2 base, Home Server 2011 features a simpler dashboard, a better backup solution, dead simple remote access to your home computers, and Silverlight-powered remote media streaming. For a more detailed look at what's new in Windows Home Server 2011, you check out Microsoft's official breakdown.

Drive Extender, of course, didn't resurface for the final release of WHS 2011 and that's something a lot of power users are still pretty irked about. Even without Extender, Windows Home Server offers a boatload of useful functionality and might be a good fit for your home network. Manufacturers have already begun building hardware, so you should be able to pick up a device in the very near future.

An evaluation download for Windows Home Server 2011 will be made available in April -- we'll let you know when the links are ready.

Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab reduced to $199.99 come April 3

Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab reduced to $199.99 come April 3

If you're either not really feeling the price, size or carrier for the Motorola Xoom the Samsung Galaxy Tab is still a viable option if you're looking to buy into an Android tablet. Sprint we can only assume, is hoping you feel the same way as new information shows they'll be dropping the price on their contracted Samsung Galaxy Tab devices.

Right now, it'll cost you $299.99 on a new two-year contract but if you can hold out until April 3 you'll be able to pick one up for $199.99. If no contract is more to your liking it looks as though the Suggested Retail Price is getting a drop as well, so you can grab one no-contract for $429.99. [Engadget]

WordPress enables new iPad-optimized layout for its 18 million blogs

WordPress iPad themeWordPress has just announced the introduction of a 'pure HTML5' iPad-optimized theme. It has been automatically activated for all 18 million WordPress.com blogs, and self-hosted WordPress.org users can download and install the plug-in manually.

The iPad-optimized layout, which was developed with tablet publishing specialist OnSwipe, supports touch interactions, swiping, rotation and 'many other features of the iPad,' all with the power of HTML5. The theme is highly configurable, too. You can change the font typeface, choose from nine different 'skins' to match your existing blog theme, and you can set a 'cover' image. Of course, if you want visitors to simply see your normal blog theme, you can just disable the new iPad plug-in.

WordPress, which claims that it powers over 10% of the Web, says that it currently serves 750,000 pages views a day to iPad users -- a number that will surely explode over the next few years. What we're seeing here, first with Flickr last week, and now with the WordPress juggernaut firmly embracing tablet computing, is a resounding acknowledgment of a post-PC world. It's a very good sign of things to come, too; we expect there'll be a lot of tablet-optimized websites in 2011.

Happy MLB Opening Day! Some app picks to keep baseball fans up-to-date

Happy MLB Opening Day! Some app picks to keep baseball fans up-to-date

MLB

Here we go again as we embark on the long journey that is the MLB regular season. Due to the longevity of the schedule and variety of times that the games are played, it's often difficult to keep up with your favorite team(s) when you're on the go. That's where the mobile world comes in, especially when the phones and devices we use get faster and better every day.

I've compiled a few apps for all of the baseball fans out there that will help them keep up with news, scores, schedules, states and much more, for their team and around the MLB. A few of the following apps are very similar in function; they provide scores, schedules, news and so forth. You really need to find the app the works best for you and update the fastest for your device. Here we go:

Google Voice Search learns Latin American Spanish, Indonesian, and Malaysian

Google Voice Search learns Latin American Spanish, Indonesian, and Malaysian
google voice search
Google Voice Search has just introduced localizations for Latin America, Indonesia and Malaysia, enabling native language search for hundreds of millions of users.

Google's official blog post offers some interesting insights into the process of collecting and analyzing the speech data needed to expand support. Thousands of hours were spent gathering voice samples and choosing key regional accents to analyze, and International Program Manager Linne Ha is clearly very appreciative of the Google users who helped the company complete the expansion. Without an enthusiastic base of users to lend a hand, Google Voice Search's polyglot powers would have been nearly impossible to deliver.

GeeknRolla ? Gowalla To Hire UK Team, Duedil Wins Startup Competition

This year's European startup conference GeeknRolla has become a platform for news, as startups launched and speakers broke news direct from the stage. Duedil, the business reputation startup, secured first prize in the startup competition, and an on-the-day announcement from DFJ Esprit that it would award the winner a 50,000 no strings investment in the form of a convertible note. This would convert into its next funding round at the price of the next round. That kind of announcement is more common in Silicon Valley, so to have the deal announced literally within a couple of hours of Duedil's pitch on stage was real news for a European event. Let's hope we see more of that kind of fast action in the rest of the year. They also won a crack at a year's worth of Windows Azure hosting, 5,000 in free legal advice form Orrick and free premium job advertisements for a year on CoderStack (normally 120 per ad per month). Not a bad result for a 3 minute pitch.

Climsy shares images on your clipboard via Dropbox and Imageshack

climsy share images dropbox
Every now and then, there's screen capture or image you stumble across that you just have to share. Climsy is a nice, simple Windows program which makes the process dead simple. It works the way FluffyApp does: take a screenshot or right-click and copy an image to your clipboard in any application, and Climsy will file it to a folder of your choosing or upload to either your Dropbox account, Imageshack, or to Climsy's own server. There's a configurable setting for automatic uploading, and Climsy will report back with a link to your file once the transfer has completed (which you can see above).

Right now, Climsy only supports full screen (Prt Scrn) or single application window captures (Alt+Prt Scrn). We'd like to see a selectable region capture, a la Screenpresso, added to round things out. We'd also like to see support for short URLs, just in case some of our links get a bit lengthy.

Climsy is available as an installer and as a portable application, and it's totally free for both personal and commercial use. It's incredibly lightweight, too -- barely clocking more than 1MB of memory on our Windows 7 test rig.
