It’s such a shame that a brilliant device such as the iPad lacks the most basic feature it’s supposed to have, a wireless iPad camera. Good thing certain apps are now available at the Apple App Store to offset this disadvantage.
Retailing at $0.99, an application called Wireless Camera developed by JP Hribovsek enables you to use any iPhone with Bluetooth as a wireless iPad camera. This works by pairing both your devices, ending a live feed from your phone to your tablet. In the lower left side of the iPad, a pop-up which shows you the live feed display. You can take a picture by tapping the camera icon in your iPad. You have the option to save your pictures in either your iPhone or iPad using the toggle switch on the screen.
Since this is Wireless Cameras first version, there are a few downsides to it. Say, you prefer to take your photo in your iPhone in landscape mode, you sure can, but your iPad will still display the image in portrait mode, which is sort of a bother if you’d rather view the larger photo in your iPad. Word from the developer assures that this concern will be resolved upon release of the next version and that a couple of other helpful updates such as saving and editing features will be added. It’s good news too that this is a universal app, which only requires you to complete a onetime purchase for you to be able to use this app for both the iPhone and iPad.
There are two applications that could well serve as the Wireless Camera’s alternative, Camera A and Camera B. These applications work in the same concept as Wireless Camera. You’d also need to install both apps in your devices. The only difference between the Wireless Camera and Camera A/Camera B applications is that latter is a few cents cheaper than the other, priced at $0.79.
Another app that enables the use of your iPhone as a wireless iPad camera is the HDcam for iPad. It works pretty much the same as the Wireless Camera, except the HDcam had an update for iOS 4. You will need to install this app on both your iPhone and iPad. After launching the app, you could immediately start taking photos via your iPhone. What’s awesome about this app is that it gives you an option to take regular or high-definition photos.
Connecting to both devices is fairly easy as it automatically recognizes the other device. This application though, only works with an iPhone 4 of iPhone 3GS and retails at the App store for $2.
