We'd previously heard rumors of Apple expanding the iPhone trade-in program to the UK, and today it appears to have gone live. Indeed, on the Apple Store UK site you're now able to price up a trade-in for a number of different iPhone versions, running right up to the iPhone 5.
You'll be asked a series of questions designed to categorize the quality of the device you wish to trade in, including whether or not it's carrier locked. Be warned, carrier locking seems to knock around £100 off the price, so if you're thinking of trading in this way, it might be worth going to your carrier and getting it unlocked first.
For anyone looking to raise some cash towards a new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c the Apple trade-in program might be a great way to do it. eBay is notoriously difficult to sell phones on, and at least with Apple you're getting a trusted service, at the expense of losing out a little on cash value. It's also pretty convenient if you're going to be buying a new phone direct from Apple.
Apple has had some form of trade-in program for other devices for a number of years now, but this is the first time it has expanded to UK Apple Stores. It also expands beyond just iPhones, if you've got something else like an old iPad you'd like to raise some credit from.
