Daily Tip: How to use Restrictions to prevent deleting 3rd party apps from the Home screen
We've already mentioned a jailbreak mod in Cydia called No Uninstall, which removes the ability to delete apps from the iPhone Home screen, but what if you're not jailbroken? Well, Apple has included this ability within the Restrictions settings by default. In this tip, we'll show you how to remove the ability to delete apps from the Home screen without having to jailbreak your iPhone first.

Kids have access to your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and curious how to prevent them from deleting your App Store apps the moment you’re not looking? They’re fun and games can cause a lot of additional work for you if you’re not careful. Luckily, Apple lets you lock down app deletion.

  1. Jump into the Settings app.
  2. Tap General settings.
  3. Next, tap Restrictions.
  4. At this point, you’ll be prompted to enter your 4-digit passcode if you have one set, or create one if you don’t. Restrictions Settings Pane
  5. Scroll down and switch Deleting Apps to ‘OFF’.

That’s it! Now, if you ever hand over your iPhone to a friend or family member, they’ll have no ability to accidentally remove or delete your favorite apps from the iPhone Home screen.

**Bonus Tip: Using an older version of iOS that doesn’t provide for app deletion restriction? If you’re jailbroken check out No Uninstall in Cydia, which removes the ability to delete apps from the iPhone Home screen.
